Dear members of the Pipe-club,

I'm Cihan from the PCT(Pipe Club of Turkey). Today I got the chance to find your web site and forum while I'm searching for you on the internet. I've made very nice chat with George(goku) on the messenger. We have shared our feelings about pipes, tobaccos and to meet very soon. I'm here in Athens until the next saturday morning. If we have a chance to meet in weekdays, I really would like to meet with the other pipe smokers who has the same culture with me. If we cannot find any chance to meet this time, we could do something next time. Due to business purposes I'm visiting Athens almost every 2 months. So in 2 months I'll be here in Athens again. I'm sure it will be a great meeting and we all will enjoy the time we'll spend together.

I'm one of the moderators of the Forum at the PCT. So we would like to welcome you at our website and forum(unfortunately they're both in Turkish). But I can make translations for you as soon as I can if you require. website http://www.turkiyepipokulubu.com
Forum: http://www.turkiyepipokulubu.com/pipoforum/index.php

Also I'm so excited to meet with you, get some photos together and to put them in our forum. I've already informed the moderators of the forum and the owner of the club. They're all sharing the same feelings with me.
Please share all you feelings here, I'm really willing to hear each one of you.

Once again, it's really nice to be here with you.

Cihan

Welcome Cihan Very Happy It was a very nice surprise to find here a new friend from Turkey and, of course, the prospect of future meetings with members of the Turkish Pipe Club is very appealing! We wish we could read your excellent site and forum -which unfortunately we can't- but we will meet with you and hopefully one day we could have a great meeting of our two clubs! Very Happy

It was a good surprise for me too. Because I have been looking for a pipe club here in Athens for the last 1 year. And today, it was real luck to find your video at youtube. I got your web site right away and apply for the membership. George responded me immediately, and here I am.

I believe we've started a long brothership between two clubs. I'll be here in Athens to meet all of you but maybe in the future I'll bring the other members from Turkey too.

The members of PCT always asks me questions about pipe smokers and pipe tobaccos of Greece. Until now I was trying to give them limited answeres. But from now on, I'll deliver all your messages to them, and give you all the answeres you need. It will be great pleasure for me to be with you. As you said maybe we will be enjoying the meeting of 2 clubs.

Wellcome Cihan. I am certain that it's an honour for all of us here, that our first foreign member, is a friend from Turkey. You are more than wellcome anytime, both in our forum and in our company when we meet. The same applies for all our fellow pipe smokers from Turkey. Friendship between our pipe clubs is an honour for us, and a great joy.

It would be very nice if we could settle a meeting. Unfortunately time frames are quite tight for all of us, since in September we are all back from holidays and business schedules are pressing. But I am sure that next time you visit us, we can have a meeting scheduled prior to your arrival, so we can all have the pleasure to meet you.

It would be a nice idea, if I may say so, if we could arrange some common activities for both clubs. We will figure something out. For now, I really wish that you have a pleasant stay in Greece, and you will hear from us again as soon as possible.

Best regards,
bluesb.

The honour is mine, I would like thank you very much for excepting me to your club and the forum as well. When I found your details there was no doubt for me to think, just wrote to you and apply for membership. I felt like we all are living in the same place.

I've already post many things about your forum and club to our forum in Istanbul. I've added some links of your pictures and videos and shared to other fellas in the PCT.

I know it will not easy to come together very soon, but next time before I come here I'll let everybody know and ask for a possible meeting. Also I'll not break the connection with you, even when I'm in Istanbul. I wish I could read the things you've posted. But it's not possible at the moment. I'm planning to study Greek very soon, I've already got the books Smile

Thanks all of you for the great hospitality, and warm welcome.

I'll stay connected...

Welcome from me too Cihan,
I'm glad to meet a fellow pipe smoker from a neighbor country especially on those possibly hard times that come.

Judging from the quoted news the anti-smoking madness in Turkey is the same than almost everywhere else nevermind the fact that there there are no solid proves for the "reasons".

Quote:

Hotel group discriminates against smokers
Sep 2, 2008—The Sunpark Hotel Group, based in Antalya, Turkey, will no longer hire smokers to work in its hotels, according to a report in the Turkish Daily News.

Ekrem Curmal, general co-ordinator of the group, which operates the Sunpark Beach, Sunpark Marine and Sunpark Garden hotels, said that customers had accepted a previous ban on smoking in rooms.

“Smokers harm not only themselves but people around them,” Curmal was quoted as saying. “They walk with smoke over their head. Nobody wants such a person to serve them.”

Ela Yannis,

You can't believe the situation in Turkey at the moment. It's really a madness as you've described very good. Now, you can't smoke while you're driving, while you're inside any kind of building, while you're in a car eventhough you're not the driver. Ant also they're planning to stop smoking in the pubs and restaurants next year. Now you can only smoke open-air places and your own personal house.

Yeah it figures. I beliave that smoking is embeded as a soscial trend in Both Greece and Turkey, one may say that smoking as a habit is a part of these countries history (without even taking consideration the actual production of Tobacco in these two countries). Anti-smoking measures originate from western European countries that although very civilised, smoking was never a part of their culture. Possible exceptions can be Britain and Germany, but even these do not reach the extent of southern mediteranian countries, not even to a certain degree.

As unified Europian Union we must respect people's political beliefs and religious beliefs (despite how absurd may occasionally be), protect minorities, strengthen local communities and cultures BUT we don't need to pay attention to social habits so deeply embedded in a country's culture and we can neglect them by applying fascist measures.

Thats how respectful we are of each other's individuality. Confused

That's a really good point of the situation, O.K. I respect the health of the other people who is riding with me. But if we all are smokers, we don't disturb ourselves. I enjoy smoking with other pipe fellas around me. So I belive if everybody is fine while we all are smoking who cares the laws. Or is there any law taking care of me more than I do?

I belive the law makers will figure out the mistakes in the near future but what I don't understand is Turkey is making these laws according to the EU which we don't belong to. I guess the government wants to show how they're willing to be a part of EU while they're making these laws. But I don't think the anti-smoking laws has the priority. There are some cases much much more important.
