Definition of BALKAN, ENGLISH, SCOTTTISH tabacco
A Balkan blend has a significant amount of latakia (Syrian and/or Cyprian) with a base of oriental leaf such as smyrna, basma, drama, xanthi, bashi bagli, and so on. Virginias may or may not be in the blend but they will always take a back seat to the orientals--but Virginias are not a necessary ingredient for the blend to be called a Balkan.
An English blend is different in that the base is virginias or a variety of virginias with some (usually more than 10%) latakia in the blend. Orientals may or may not be present for it to be an English blend and are not necessary for it to be an English blend.
A Scottish blend has a predominant amount of virginia with a small (usually less than 10%) amount of latakia, and may or may not have orientals present in the blend. There is much overlap here with English blends.
