Smooth Dublin Sitter New!

Product Number: 002-381-0022
American wizard Brad Pohlmann tends to make pipes that generally fall neatly into either a medium or large category, or at least that is my personal observation of the ones that have passed by desk. I have often wondered how he would approach a composition that definitely scaled towards the diminutive, and now I can quit wondering.

This freehand dublin sitter is an exquisite jewel, and I choose those words carefully. The composition, in its totality, is imbued with a profound sense of "wa" (harmony) and is one of the very few pipes that I have seen from a non Japanese carver that really "gets" the concept of wabi-sabi. Wabi-sabi is the single most important (yet hard to define, and even harder to create) underpinning of the entire pantheon of the Japanese aesthetic. It is a celebration of the natural asymmetry displayed in nature, an unabashed admiration for the "the perfect beauty that lies within the imperfect". The macro spirit, the shaping and the deft placement of plateau are all brought to their highest realization, by being juxtaposed by adroitly chosen detail, like the incredible beveling of the inner mount and exquisitely carved bit. The Japanese have a word for an object, person, or act that displays a seemingly effortless perfection that exceeds the sum of visible parts. This pipe has "shibumi".
