Greetings,

I will be visiting Athens and Crete this July. I was wondering if anyone could recommend any shops or other pipe smoking related venues in those areas.

North america no longer carries dunhill tobaccos so I would love to stock up on some 965.

If there is a cafe or bar you gents usually meet in Athens I would love to attend if it coincides with my time of visit.

Welcome Zeid,

Unfortunatelly you cannot find 965 in Greece, so if you fly directly from Canada you will be in the same position as the rest of us.

We usually meet once per month, but not always in the same place. I am almost certain someone will remember to announce here the details of our July meeting. It will certainly be a pleasure to meet you.

Hi Zeid!

Listen carefully. In Greece you will be able to find aromatic tobbaccos and Davidoff (more than 30 US$ a tin of 50 gramms). All tobbaccos are extremely heavily priced. You can bring up to 250gr of tobbacco in the country with you duty free per person. So be carefull and bring as much tobacco you think you will smoke or else ...

Please note that a (non very strict) anti smoking law will take effect on July 1st in Greece.
You will be allowed to smoke in all outside places, and possibly in your hotel room (please check), but not in most inside places (please ask before you light).

thanks for all of your valuable feedback. So is there a pipe shop in athens that is worth visiting, are there any greek made pipes that are worth getting? My sister-in-law had bought me a 'marsif' pipe from Chania, anyone know anything about that make?

Normally the flights from Canada to Greece are coming with a response through London or Amsterdam.
Both countries belong to E.U.
So!
During the waiting time, you look around in duty free stores for your favorite tobaccos.
As your final destination is an E.U. country (Greece) you will be able to buy the allowed quantity of tobacco per person,and in prices same as the normal market.
Bring in mind that these prices are much cheaper than in my country.
In your case you will be able to have tobacco for two persons. For you and your wife.
You can do, also,the same trick for liquors e.t.c.

Thank you for the tip, I will be flying directly to Athens from Montreal, so not much duty free options.

If you guys plan on meeting during my stay I have some tobaccos that I will bring to share that you might not have in Greece ( tin of penzance and margate for example)

Usually we meet on Wednesdays. About 9 pm at a restaurant (different every time) and usually most stay until 1pm. Some stay late.
So I will say to meet on Wednesday 1 July for eat, smoke and drink. We can meet somewhere near seaside. It will be nice.
What everyone think about it?
Zeid what you think about it? In Greece we stay out late at nights. If you prefer earlier tell about it.

Mr. Dimitrios Diamantopoulos is included in the list, but has no website. You could pm him, if you're interested, as he is a member of pipeclub.gr (his nickname is "daidalma"). There is also another Greek brand called Fallion, but I couldn't find any web resource for that.

We are also proud to have among us a brilliant pipe maker, Christos Asteriou. You can check his pipes out here: http://forum.pipeclub.gr/viewtopic.php?t=486

Unforunately, Christos is not a professional pipe maker, meaning he does not make pipes for a living. He usually carves pipes for himself, although he has made a few commissions for fellow members.

So, there you have it: Greek pipe makers (quite a few, IMO). If any other fellow member has anyone else in mind, he/she could post additional info or other websites. I hope I'm not forgetting anyone.

Hope you enjoy your trip. Also hope that we'll meet in Athens.
